After graduation, her journey of God has led her to serve a one-year missionary term for Young Adult Service Corp in South Africa, and on return she entered the process for postulancy for Holy Orders in the Diocese of New Jersey. On affirmation of this call, she entered The General Theological Seminary in New York City, where she will graduate in May. This is the last week to make an Easter donation at our Giving page.

Next week the special account will be our very own Camp Arrowhead fund which helps children at St. Thomas’s pay for camp.

Finally, if you didn’t have your check book with you yesterday for the Bishop’s visit, you can make a donation online to his discretionary fund.

All my best,

Sermon for The Fourth Sunday of Easter & Confirmation Day

“I will make a new covenant … I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

As you have come to know, I try to pay attention to those God Tweets wherever, however, whenever, and through whomever they may come. They are just too important in my living faith to miss, although I certainly miss more than my share. However, a recent commercial for a hospital in the Philadelphia area God tweeted me to attention for this Confirmation Day.

“Neighbor-to-Neighbor” — A Retreat on Poverty April 30

posted in: Outreach | 0

On Saturday April 30, from 8:30 – 3 St. Barnabas’ is hosting a day-long retreat with Friendship House on poverty, in particular the nature of suburban poverty, guiding principles and best practices. As we all know, sometimes churches with the best of intentions hurt rather than help. This will be the start of conversations about how the churches can work together, with local partners, and in relationship with those in need and with their participation, toward empowerment and addressing systemic issues that prevent people from living a purposeful life. The Rev. Bill Perkins is the speaker, and participants will receive a copy of his substantial paper. We will also pray together, be in conversation together, sing together and eat together.

If I could ask you to please publicize this event in your congregations. The event is free but we are asking people to register as we are providing lunch and it would be helpful to have a reasonably accurate count.

Thank you!

Campus Ministry Episcopalians, Lutherans, and Presbyterians

On Wed., April 13, 2016, St. Thomas’s ECM-ers had a great time with the Lutheran Campus Ministry and the Presbyterian Campus Ministry. They came to chat with us some even before our Evening Prayer time, and it was so much fun to have a few new faces. It was a great turn out of the ECM regulars too, which made for all the more fun; we even filled three pews for evening prayer! We had a fantastic dinner and a wonderful UDairy dessert, and we all sat with someone new at our tables. Each table shared “God moments” or “New and Goods” with one another, which is when each person gets to share something positive from their week so that we can celebrate it as a group. We wrapped up a satisfying dinner and discussion and helped the LCM and PCM-ers make some Fleece-tie blankets that would be donated to foster children. Since this meeting was in the middle of the week, it was so nice to take a break for arts and crafts!

Feeling satisfied with the food and the company of one another, we made sure to invite the LCM and PCM-ers to come again if they ever felt so inclined, and they also invited us to their Tuesday dinner and Wednesday Bible Study if we ever felt the need. Tonight was another wonderful reminder of how blessed I am to attend a school and a congregation that places such importance on fostering relationships with other students, constantly challenging me to expand my social networks inside and outside the classroom!

We’re finalizing plans for Confirmation with Bishop Wright’s visit on Sunday, April 17th, and still need a few more goodies for the coffee hour/reception. Given the special occasion, we expect a larger-than-normal crowd and want to make sure there’s a mighty feast. It would be great if you could provide your special dish or something similar to the following – Finger foods (hot & cold), Chips, Dips, Cheese, Fruit, Veggies, Salads, Cookies, Pastries.

Items should be dropped off at the church kitchen before 11 AM on Sunday, April 17th. Please let us know what you can give. Blessings!
