Lenten 2020 Opportunities

posted in: Lent | 0

Dear friends,

As we begin Lent, I would like to remind you of two opportunities for spiritual growth over the next six weeks.

1)  On Sunday evenings at 5:30 p.m., Evening Prayer will be offered in the church. The form will be mostly chanted, but please don’t let your opinion of your own voice keep you away!  The chant is simple, and those who want to come and worship in prayerful silence are also most welcome.  The dates for these services will be March 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, and April 5, 2020.

2)  On Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m., I will lead an “inquirers’ class” in the parlor.  We will cover the basics of Christian faith, and the Anglican/Episcopal approach as well.  This is an excellent resource for those considering whether they might like to be confirmed, received, or reaffirmed by the Bishop when he is with us in May 2020. Those who just want to refresh what they learned long ago, or who want some new spiritual insights should consider coming too.  The dates for these classes will be March 4, 11, 18, and 25, and April 1, 2020.

Please plan to join us – and to bring a friend – for these Lenten events.

Peace, Howie+
The Reverend Dr. Howell C. Sasser, Jr.

Did you know that it’s illegal in North Carolina to plow a field with an elephant?
.
What do we do when we become so far removed from the reason for the rule, that they seem absurd? Do we become blind arbitrators? How does this relate to our relationships?
.
Well, what would Jesus say? Take a listen to the Sermon for the Sixth Sunday After Epiphany to hear what Father Sasser has to say.
